With this being based on actual events. it’s sure to gain the attention of the audience, and will speak volumes for parents. It’s a strong film that deals with the pain of losing a loved one, and the secluded life style that comes afterwards. What makes the film stand out is its isolated location from the rest of the world. Deep in the snowy lands of Wyoming, it’s a completely different territory that most aren’t accustomed to, and may shift the way you comprehend justice. No one deserves the tragedy in the film, and the performance by Jeremy Renner intensifies the drama to a level I’ve never seen him portray before. Teaming up with his partner from the Avengers Elizabeth Olsen, these two bond together to uncover the truth of a crime that shouldn’t have been committed.
There are many positives that can be listed within Wind River, and the first starts with the mystery the film creates from the start. It presents itself as puzzle that needs solving. Olsen’s character Jane has the skills to accomplish this as an FBI agent, but Cory (Jeremy Renner) is a master at tracking, no matter what the weather pattern is. Showing Cory using a variety of tools and utensils to solve a crime was entertaining. Besides just handling the situation, he was able to break down his methods in an easy way for the audience to understand. What will also get you onboard with his involvement is the performance he delivered. This is the best acting that I’ve ever seen from Renner, and the way he emoted on screen is a sure way to get you to sympathize with his character. He, with the snap of a finger was able to convey the amount of pain he was in, what his mental state was, and how to handle it properly.
This film can be described as a one track roller coaster of sorts. A slow entertaining film towards the beginning, letting you enjoy all your surroundings building up higher and higher. All the way to the end for the big drop off, you’ve been waiting for. It all pays off too, giving you a small sense of action you weren’t able to predict earlier in the film. With the landscape being so isolated and quiet when gunfire was going off, it was a great contrast to the quiet nature the film had all along. It was intense, frightening, and I wasn’t sure how it would turn out in the end.
There isn’t anything to complain about within the film from my point either. It gives you what you want in the name of justice, and is a cold burn to that point. You’re rooting for the characters and are leaning towards the end of your seat when danger lurk around the corner. That’s because you care about them for a number of reasons. There’s everything to love about Cory, and you’ll respect Jane alone on her presence. They make a great team together, which turns into a great movie. I would never want to live the life the characters did in the film, but I can understand why. On another note, the film just gives a great example why it’s necessary to get out and explore the world. To remove yourself from your comfort zone and explore. Even in America, how some will perceive everything is the same, it’s not and so much to witness in the backyard of these united states. The characters in the film are so separated from the rest of the world, it’s as if they’re on a different planet.
Whether you view this as fiction or truth; there’s some pleasure to have. And the acknowledgement of the insanity that happened to Native Americans many years ago in this country has set the bar even higher for films that pull on your heart. There are many things to gravitate to within this film, and it was a joy to pick them all out. If you have kids I certainly recommend. It may reset your mind to make sure you hold on even tighter to those you love the most, because if you blink, you may miss something very important.
